In the Laboratory of Physiology, School of Biology, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, we perform cytotoxicity assays. We estimate the viability of epithelial cells (A549) after exposure to car exhaust nanoparticle emissions, using the ALI (Air-Liquid Interface) system. Cells are cultured on filters and transferred to the chassis dynamometer of the Laboratory of Applied Thermodynamics. Cells in the ALI are exposed to emission from different car types, during different driving modes. Cell viability is assessed with the Alamar blue or the LDH method (photos).
